Formatting memory

The built-in flash memory of your Walkman can be formatted.

Note

  • Formatting the memory erases all content data (songs, etc., including the sample data installed at the factory, the supplied software installer, and the “Help Guide.”) Be sure to check the data stored in the memory and export any important data to Media Go or the hard disk of your computer before formatting.
  • Be sure not to use a computer to initialize (format) the built-in flash memory of your Walkman. If you format the memory with a computer, format it again using the Walkman.
  1. Turn on your Walkman.
  2. Press and hold the button (Jog lever) on the right () side of your Walkman for about 15 seconds until the OPR lamp blinks orange quickly.
  3. Release the button.
The OPR lamp lights up in red.
  4. Slide the button (Jog lever) and the OPR lamp changes from blinking in red to being lit in green.
  5. Press the button (Jog lever) while the OPR lamp is lit in green.
The OPR lamp blinks in green quickly while formatting. The OPR lamp turns off when formatting is completed.

Note

  • Formatting will be canceled in the following cases:
    • When you do not operate your Walkman for 30 seconds after step 3.
    • When you press the button (Jog lever) in step 5 while the OPR lamp is lit in red.

Hint

  • Your Walkman will automatically enter standby mode when formatting is completed.
  • For Windows users: You can install the supplied software on another computer through the following procedure even if you delete the “Setup.exe” file by formatting the built-in flash memory of your Walkman. Copy the “Setup.exe” file and the “Install” folder from the “Backup” folder of your computer to your Walkman. Then, connect your Walkman to another computer and install the software. The “Backup” folder can be found at C:\Program Files(*1)\Sony\WALKMAN Guide\NWZ-WH500 WH300\Backup

(*1) “Program Files(x86)” may be displayed depending on the computer OS.
