Attaching/Detaching a Port Replicator

You can attach your VAIO computer to a port replicator (not supplied).

To attach the port replicator

  1. Turn off your VAIO computer and all peripheral devices connected to the computer, and disconnect the devices from the computer.

Hint
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and cables connected to the monitor port and HDMI output port on your VAIO computer. You cannot attach your VAIO computer to the port replicator with these cables connected.

  1. Connect the port replicator to an AC power source.

Plug one end of the power cord (1) into the AC adapter (2) and the other end into an AC outlet (3).
And then, plug the cable from the AC adapter into the DC IN port (4) on the port replicator.
The DC IN indicator light turns on.
  1. Remove the port replicator connector cover from the bottom of your VAIO computer.

Note
  • The port replicator connector cover may be difficult to remove. Be careful not to damage your VAIO computer or the cover by exerting extra pressure when you remove the cover. Be sure to keep the removed cover for future use.

  1. Align the rear bottom corners of your VAIO computer with the guides on the port replicator.

Hint
  • When an extended battery pack (not supplied) is attached to your VAIO computer:
Slide the tab in the direction of the arrow (1) to lift the connector (2) on the port replicator. Make sure that the tab is set to the end when you attach the port replicator.

  • When an extended battery pack is not attached to your VAIO computer:
Attaching the computer while the connector is in the lifted position may damage the connectors. Be sure to slide the tab in the opposite direction of the arrow to lower the connector.

  1. Gently lower your VAIO computer and push the area indicated by the arrows until the computer clicks into place.

Do not force your VAIO computer against the port replicator or exert pressure on the computer, as it may cause damage or malfunction to both the computer and the port replicator.
Note
  • Be sure to use the specified AC adapter to connect the port replicator to an AC power source.

  • Be sure to turn off your VAIO computer before attaching the computer to the port replicator.

  • Do not move your VAIO computer while the computer is attached to the port replicator, as it may detach the port replicator and cause an injury or damage to both the port replicator and the computer.

To back up your VAIO computer

You can back up your data to the built-in storage device on the port replicator.
To back up your data, follow the on-screen instructions that appear when you attach your VAIO computer to the port replicator. Select the built-in storage device on the port replicator when prompted to select a location to save the backup data.
Hint
  • You need to complete the initial setup when you first back up your data to the port replicator. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup.

Note
  • Do not detach your VAIO computer from the port replicator during backup.

  • When you set the schedule to back up your data in the Set up backup window, your data will be backed up automatically. If you detach your VAIO computer from the port replicator during the scheduled backup time, your data may be corrupted. To prevent the data corruption caused by the detachment of the port replicator without noticing the background backup, change or cancel the backup schedule.

To detach the Port Replicator

  1. Turn off your VAIO computer and all peripheral devices.

  1. Lift your VAIO computer away from the port replicator.

  1. Replace the port replicator connector cover on the bottom of your VAIO computer.

Note
  • To prevent loss of unsaved data, be sure to turn off your VAIO computer before detaching the computer from the port replicator.
