Task

Installing/Removing the Battery Pack

Install the battery pack into the battery compartment on the bottom of your VAIO computer.
Be sure to install the battery pack before using the computer.
Do not use the computer without installing the battery pack, as it may cause the computer to malfunction.

To install the battery pack

  1. Turn off your VAIO computer, disconnect the power cord and all connection cables, and close the LCD screen lid.

  1. Turn your VAIO computer over and remove the bottom cover.

Unscrew the two screws (1) with a cross slot screwdriver, then slide the cover in the direction of the arrow (2).
Note
  • Use a screwdriver (such as a precision screwdriver) that matches the size of the screws.

  • Do not remove or loosen the screws that are not specified to be removed, as it may cause your VAIO computer to malfunction.

  • Be careful not to drop the removed screws through the openings in and around the battery compartment into your VAIO computer.

  • Be careful not to touch the wires and the projections in and around the battery compartment.

  1. Slide the battery pack into the battery compartment in the direction of the arrow.

  1. Push the battery pack down into the battery compartment.

The battery pack clicks into place in the compartment.
  1. Replace the bottom cover.

Push the cover in the direction of the arrow (1) so that all the tabs on the cover fit in place, then replace and tighten the two screws (2).

To remove the battery pack

  1. Turn off your VAIO computer, disconnect the power cord and all connection cables, and close the LCD screen lid.

  1. Follow step 2 in To install the battery pack.

  1. Remove the battery pack.

Pull the tab on the battery compartment in the direction of the arrow (1), and while holding the tab, lift the battery pack in the direction of the arrow (2).
Slide the battery pack away from the compartment in the direction of the arrow (3).
Hint
  • If your VAIO computer does not recognize the battery pack, push and hold the battery off button on the bottom of the computer for about three seconds with a thin, straight object (such as a paper clip). If this does not solve the problem, remove the battery pack and install it once again.
    If an extended battery pack (not supplied) is attached to the computer, remove the extended battery pack. If this does not solve the problem, push and hold the battery off button for about three seconds. If the problem persists, remove the battery pack and install it once again.

Note
  • You will lose all unsaved data if you remove the battery pack while your VAIO computer is on or in Sleep mode and not connected to the AC adapter.
    Be sure to turn off the computer before removing the battery pack.
