Descriptions of menu items

TC/UB Disp:

Sets the display for the counter, time code, and user bit.

TC Preset:

Sets the time code.

UB Preset:

Sets the user bit.

TC Format: (1080 60i-compatible device only)

Sets the recording method for the time code.

TC Run:

Sets the count up format for the time code.

TC Make:

Sets the recording format for the time code on the recording medium.

UB Time Rec:

Sets whether or not to record the time as a user bit.

To set the time code (TC Preset)

- [Setup] - [ TC/UB] - [TC Preset] - desired value.

• You can set the time code within the following range.

  • When the frame rate is 30p or 60p (1080 60i-compatible device):

    00:00:00:00 - 23:59:59:29

    When the frame rate is 25p or 50p (1080 50i-compatible device):

    00:00:00:00 - 23:59:59:24

  • When the frame rate is 24p, you can set the last 2 digits of the time code between 0 and 23 in multiples of 4.

To reset the time code

- [Setup] - [ TC/UB] - [TC Preset] - [RESET].

• You can also reset the time code  (00:00:00:00) by selecting [Setup] - [ General Settings] - [Initialize], or by using the remote commander RMT-VP1K (sold separately).

To set the user bit (UB Preset)

- [Setup] - [ TC/UB] - [UB Preset] - desired value.

• You can set the user bit within the following range.
  • 00 00 00 00 - FF FF FF FF

To reset the user bit

- [Setup] - [ TC/UB] - [UB Preset] - [RESET].

• You can also reset the user bit by selecting [Setup] - [ General Settings] - [Initialize].

To select the recording method of the time code (TC Format)

- [Setup] - [ TC/UB] - [TC Format] - desired setting.

• DF: Records the time code compensating gaps that arise between the actual time. (Drop frame* method)
• NDF: Records the time code without compensating gaps that arise between the actual time. (Non-drop frame method)

^* When the frame rate is set to 30p or 60p for the NTSC TV color system, the time code is based on 30 or 60 frames per second. However, gaps in the actual time occur during extended periods of recording as the actual frame frequency of the NTSC image signal is 29.97 frames per second. Drop frame corrects this gap to make the time code and actual time equal. In drop frame, the first 2 frame numbers (for 30p, 4 frame numbers for 60p) are removed every minute except in every tenth minute. The time code without this correction is called non-drop frame.

To select how the time code advances (TC Run)

- [Setup] - [ TC/UB] - [TC Run] - desired setting.

• Rec Run: Advances the time code during movie recording. Select this setting to record the time code sequentially from the last time code of the previous recording.

  Even if the time code advances in [Rec Run] mode, the time code may not be recorded sequentially when the recording media is removed.

• Free Run: Advances the time code regardless of the operation of the camcorder.

To select the method how the time code is recorded in the recording media (TC Make)

- [Setup] - [ TC/UB] - [TC Make] - desired setting.

• Preset: Records the newly set time code on the recording media.
• Regenerate: Reads the last time code of the previous recording from the recording media and records the new time code sequentially from the last time code.
