1
Fully understand the features of your headphones.
Listen to your favorite tracks repeatedly with your everyday headphones while paying close attention to how well you hear each musical instrument, how the highs and lows sound, and how many unique sounds there are. The insights gained here will greatly aid you in finding the right headphones.
2
Choose between overhead band (A) and in-ear (B) types.
Before you settle on a type, visualize how you are going to use the headphones and where you will wear them. Then make sure they don’t feel uncomfortable when you put them on.
3
Try out the headphones.
Take your Walkman with you to a store or showroom where you can try out various headphones. Listen to your favorite tunes as you sample the various headphones. Be sure to bring along your everyday headphones too. It is easier to find your preferred sound style by doing on-the-spot comparisons between your everyday headphones and the various in-store headphones. You will find yourself saying something like, “Aha, I prefer punchy bass!” or “Ah, I prefer powerful vocals,” or perhaps “Oh, I prefer soft sounds.” That will help you find the headphones that make your favorite songs sound even better.
Listen to one of your favorite songs on your favorite pair of headphones.
Hint
- When choosing a pair of headphones, be aware of the headphone cable plug shape. Choose headphones with a 3-conductor plug. The NWZ-F880 series Walkman may malfunction if you connect a 4-counductor plug.
- To get the best sound, wear the headphones correctly.
In-ear canal type headphones:
Wear the headphones so that the earbuds fit in your ears. If they do not fit in, try another size of earbuds. Ambient noise will also be audible if there is a gap. Your ear hole size may differ between the right and left ears, so try different earbud sizes for each ear.Overhead band headphones:
Adjust the ear pad positions to wear them on both ears correctly. Sound will be heard differently if you wear glasses or your hair covers part of your ears, changing the angle. - To use headphones other than the supplied headphones with the NWZ-F880 series, select [Select headphones] - [Other].
- If connecting open-air type or other overhead band headphones intended for indoor use directly to your Walkman, you might not be able to obtain sufficient volume. If that happens, using a headphone amplifier is recommended.
