Power

The power does not turn on.
  • The HOLD switch is set to the HOLD position.

  • Slide the HOLD switch to the opposite position [Details].

  • If you press the button immediately after turning off your Walkman, the Walkman does not start due to the shutting down process. Wait for a few seconds, then turn on the power.

  • The remaining battery power is low or insufficient.

  • Charge the battery by connecting your Walkman to a running computer [Details]. If you charge the battery and nothing changes, press the RESET button to reset the Walkman [Details].

  • There is not enough free space in the built-in memory.

  • For details on the capacity for files and folders, see [Details].

  • At least 20 MB of free space is necessary to function normally. If you want to check the free space, open [My Computer] or [Computer] – [WALKMAN], right-click [Storage Media] to display the menu, and then select [Properties].
    Data hierarchy may differ, depending on your computer environment.

Battery life is short.
  • The operating temperature is below 5 °C (41 ºF).

  • Battery life becomes shorter as a result of the battery characteristics. This is not a malfunction.

  • Battery charging time is not sufficient.

  • Charge the battery until appears.

  • By adjusting the settings or managing the power supply properly, you can save the battery power and use your Walkman for a longer time [Details].

  • You have not used your Walkman for more than a year.

  • Depending on the conditions under which the Walkman has been kept, the battery may have deteriorated. Consult your nearest Sony dealer.

  • When usable battery life becomes half the usual time, even after you charge the battery fully, the battery should be replaced.

  • Consult your nearest Sony dealer.

My Walkman cannot charge the battery.
  • Your Walkman is not connected to a USB connector on your computer properly.

  • Disconnect the Walkman, and then reconnect it.

  • The battery is charged in an ambient temperature out of the range of 5 °C (41 ºF) to 35 °C (95 ºF).

  • You cannot charge the battery when the icon appears. Charge the battery in an ambient temperature of 5 °C (41 ºF) to 35 °C (95 ºF).

  • The computer is not on.

  • Turn on the computer.

  • Your computer has entered Sleep or Hibernation status.

  • Release the computer from Sleep or Hibernation status.

  • A USB hub is being used.

  • Connecting your Walkman via a USB hub may not work. Connect the Walkman to your computer directly.

  • The operating system installed on the computer is not supported by your Walkman.

  • To charge the Walkman, connect the Walkman to a computer with the operating system that is supported by the Walkman [Details].

  • You have not used your Walkman for more than a year.

  • Depending on the conditions under which the Walkman has been kept, the battery may have deteriorated. Consult your nearest Sony dealer.

  • If the problem still persists even after you perform the procedures above, press the RESET button of your Walkman [Details] and reconnect it to the computer.

Charging is completed very quickly.
  • If the battery is already almost fully charged when charging begins, little time is needed to reach full charge.
