Connection to a computer

[CONNECTED USB] does not appear when my Walkman is connected to the computer. (The computer does not recognize my Walkman.)
  • The USB connector on your Walkman is not connected to a USB connector on your computer properly.

  • Disconnect the Walkman, and then reconnect it.

  • A USB hub is being used.

  • Connect your Walkman directly to a USB connector, as connection via a USB hub may not work. However, a USB hub that supplies power can be used.

  • Another application is running on the computer.

  • Disconnect your Walkman, wait a few minutes, and reconnect it. If the problem persists, disconnect the Walkman, restart the computer, and then reconnect the Walkman.

  • The USB connector on your computer may have a problem.

  • Connect your Walkman to another USB connector on your computer.

  • When you use your Walkman for the first time, or when the battery is low, it may take about 30 seconds to display the message on the Walkman display after you connect the Walkman to the computer. This is not a malfunction.

  • The remaining battery power is insufficient.

  • Charge the battery by connecting your Walkman to a running computer for at least 5 minutes. When you charge a depleted battery, the power illuminator blinks clockwise and nothing appears in the display.

  • If the problem still persists even after you perform the procedures above, press the RESET button of your Walkman and reconnect it to the computer.

Data cannot be transferred to my Walkman from the computer.
  • The data transfer may be stopped due to noise, such as static electricity, etc. This protects data information.

  • Disconnect your Walkman, then reconnect it.

  • The USB connector on your Walkman is not connected to a USB connector on your computer properly.

  • Disconnect the Walkman, and then reconnect it.

  • There is not enough free space in the built-in flash memory.

  • Delete any unnecessary data to increase free space.

  • For details on the maximum recordable number of files or folders, see [Details].

  • Abnormal data exists on your Walkman.

  • Transfer usable files back to your computer and format the built-in flash memory on the Walkman [Details].

  • The data may be damaged.

  • Delete the data that cannot be transferred from your computer, then import it to your computer again. When importing data to your computer or transferring data to your Walkman, close any other applications to avoid data damage.

  • You may be attempting to transfer a file that is not in a playable format.

  • For information on the supported file format, see [Details]. You may not be able to transfer a file depending on the file specification.

  • You tried to transfer contents with copyright protection.

  • You cannot transfer contents with copyright protection since your Walkman does not support them.

The transfer takes too long time.
  • You are transferring a large file.

  • It may take a long time to transfer a large file.

Only a small amount of data can be transferred to my Walkman.
  • There is not enough free space in the built-in flash memory.

  • Delete any unnecessary data to increase free space.

  • Data that cannot be played on your Walkman is stored on the Walkman.

  • If data other than song data is stored on the Walkman, less data can be transferred. Transfer data that cannot be played on the Walkman back to the computer to increase the available space.

My Walkman becomes unstable while it is connected to the computer.
  • A USB hub is being used.

  • Connect your Walkman directly to a USB connector, as connection via a USB hub may not work. However, a USB hub that supplies power can be used.
