Preparing for Bluetooth communication (Pairing)

What is pairing?

Bluetooth audio devices need to be “paired” with each other beforehand. Once Bluetooth audio devices are paired, there is no need for pairing again, except in the following cases:
  • When the pairing of the Bluetooth audio device is deleted from your Walkman after repair, etc.

  • When the pairing of your Walkman on the Bluetooth audio device is deleted.

Pairing your “WALKMAN” with Bluetooth audio devices

  1. Place your Walkman and the Bluetooth audio device within 1 meter of each other.

  1. Turn on the Bluetooth audio device and set it up for pairing.

  • For details about setting up the Bluetooth audio device, refer to the respective manuals supplied with the Bluetooth audio device.

  1. From the Home menu, select [Bluetooth] [Add Device (Pairing)].

  • The screen that informs of pairing process appears. appears in the information area.

  1. Select desired Bluetooth audio device.

  • It may take time for the Bluetooth device to be displayed.

  • When the screen to enter the passkey (*1) appears, press the / buttons to select the number, and press the / buttons to move the cursor. After you enter the passkey, press the button to confirm.

(*1) “Passkey” is also called “Pass code,” “PIN code,” “PIN number,” or “Pass word.” For details about entering a passkey on the Bluetooth audio device, refer to the respective manuals.
  • When pairing is complete, the Bluetooth connection is established with the paired Bluetooth audio device, and changes to in the information area.

To cancel pairing process

Press the BACK/HOME button to cancel pairing. After [Canceling the connection...] appears, the Bluetooth function turns off, and then the screen returns to the one of step 3.

When not complete pairing

If your Walkman failed pairing, [No devices found; ensure a device is available to connect with, and search again via the Option menu.] appears. To complete the pairing, repeat the steps from step 1.

Hint
  • After your Walkman and the Bluetooth audio device exchange the passkeys, pairing proceeds. Bluetooth connection is established automatically after pairing completes. You can listen to sound from the Bluetooth audio device [Details].

  • Once your Walkman and the Bluetooth audio device have been paired, they can establish Bluetooth connection without pairing process.

  • Your Walkman can only pair with one device at a time. To pair with multiple devices, repeat the steps from step 1 for each pairing.

  • When the same names of a device are displayed, check the BD address of the desired device. For details about the BD address of the Bluetooth audio device, refer to the respective manuals.

Note
  • When your Walkman starts pairing, it stops playback of the song automatically.

  • You cannot operate your Walkman during pairing.

  • The screen to enter the passkey disappears after a few moments. If the passkey entry is not completed before the screen disappears, repeat the steps from step 3.

  • If you do not operate your Walkman for certain period during pairing process, the process is cancelled automatically. In this case, repeat the steps from step 3.
