Sending a file

You can send a file stored on your Walkman to another device via Bluetooth connection.
Note
  • Your Walkman supports OPP (Object Push Profile), which is a Bluetooth profile (*1) for sending data. To send data to another Bluetooth device, that device also needs to support OPP.
(*1) Bluetooth profiles are specifications that are standardized according to the purpose of Bluetooth communication.

  • Copyright laws may prohibit content transfer without the copyright holders permission, for other than your personal/private enjoyment.

  • Some Bluetooth devices may not be able to receive a file sent from your Walkman. For details on how to use the Bluetooth function of your device, refer to the manual of that device.

  1. Set the Bluetooth device to standby state to receive a file.

  • For details about receiving a file, refer to the respective manuals.

  • See [Details] for additional information about transferring a file between two Walkmans.

  1. From the playback screen of a song, a video, a podcast episode or photo, press the OPTION/PWR OFF button to bring up the option menu.

  1. Select [Send File].

  • When you send a file, the copyright warning message appears. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. Press the OPTION/PWR OFF button to bring up the option menu, and then select [Search for a Device].

  1. Select the desired device.

  • Check the BD address (alphanumeric code) displayed under the model name to make sure that the BD address on the screen matches that of your Bluetooth device. A BD address is specific to each Bluetooth device, which allows it to be identified. To locate the BD address of your Bluetooth device, refer to the manual of that device.

  • A pairing process is performed when it is the first time for the device to establish a Bluetooth connection with your Walkman. When authentication codes (alphanumeric codes) appear on your Walkman and on the Bluetooth device, check that they are the same.

  • A message confirming connection appears and file transfer begins.

  1. Check that the file transfer has completed.

  • On the Bluetooth device, exit from file receive standby state.

To cancel pairing

Press the BACK/HOME button during the pairing process.

If no Bluetooth device is found

If no Bluetooth device is found, [No devices found; ensure a device is available to connect with, and search again via the Option menu.] appears. Press the OPTION/PWR OFF button to bring up the option menu, and then select [Search Again] to search for a device again.

If pairing fails

If pairing fails, a connection abort screen appears and your Walkman returns to the screen of step 4. Try again from step 4.
Hint
  • If you want to send to a Bluetooth device that you have already sent a file to, skip step 4.

Note
  • When the screen to enter the passkey (*1) appears, enter the passkey of the Bluetooth device. Press the / buttons to select the number, and press the / buttons to move the cursor. After you enter the passkey, press the button to confirm.
(*1) “Passkey” is also called “Pass code,” “PIN code,” “PIN number,” or “Pass word.” The passkey of your Walkman is “0000.” For information on the passkey of the Bluetooth device, refer to the manual of the device.

  • A file protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) cannot be sent.

  • File transfer may fail if the Bluetooth device is too far from your Walkman, or there is interference from other devices. In those cases, reduce the distance between your Walkman and the Bluetooth device, and keep a good distance from other devices or turn them off if possible.

  • When your Walkman sends a file, playback will be stopped.

  • LRC files for songs and thumbnails for videos cannot be sent.

  • Cover art for songs may not be sent.
