Precautions

Notes on the install location

  • Install PCS on a level surface.
  • Do not submit PCS to impact. Do not drop PCS.
  • Do not install PCS in any of the following conditions:

    • Unstable surface
    • Excessive dust
    • Excessive temperature (hot or cold)
    • Excessive vibration or loud sound
    • High humidity
    • Direct sunlight
    • Low atmospheric pressure (3,000 m or higher altitude above sea level, or 0.5 atm or below)
    • Strong magnetic field or radiation
    • Poor ventilation
  • When PCS is installed on a desk or table made of metal, it may cause communication errors or other problems.
  • Do not block the air intake for the cooling fan. It may cause a malfunction.
  • Do not put a liquid container or vase on PCS. It may cause a malfunction.
  • It is recommended that a Sony brand HDMI cable (sold separately) is used.
  • Be sure to check the voltage and current ratings of your device before connecting it to PCS.
  • No USB hubs are supported.
  • No USB extension cables are supported.

Notes on the AC adaptor

  • Wall outlets differ in shape depending on the country or region. Check the wall outlet type of the country or region before departure to another country or region. Do not connect PCS to a travel voltage converter or transformer. It may cause overheating or a malfunction.
  • Be sure to use the supplied AC adaptor only.

On moisture condensation

If PCS is brought directly from a cold to a warm location, moisture may condense on or inside PCS. This may cause a malfunction of PCS.

If moisture condensation occurs, turn off PCS and wait for a while for the moisture to evaporate.

On transportation

Before transporting PCS, remove the memory card, AC adaptor and cables and pack PCS into its original packaging. If you do not have the original packaging, pack PCS with packing material to protect it from shock and vibration during transit.

On cleaning

Should PCS become very dirty, clean it with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water or mild detergent solution. Do not use thinner, benzene or alcohol as it may mar the finish of the case.

Notes on using PCS

Do not disconnect PCS from the wall outlet while writing/reading/deleting data. It may cause data corruption.

Notes on using memory cards

  • Confirm the correct insertion direction before use. Incorrect use will damage your device.
  • Do not remove the memory card or turn off the power while reading or accessing data. You may lose or damage data.
  • It is recommended that you make a back-up of important data.
  • Do not touch terminal with your hand or any metal object.
  • Do not strike, bend, drop or wet a memory card.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or convert a memory card.
  • Do not use or store a memory card in the following locations:

    • Where the range of recommended operating conditions is exceeded. (Inside a closed car in summer or in strong sunshine/in direct sunlight/near a heater, etc.)
    • Humid or corrosive locations.
    • Subject to static electricity or electrical noise.

"Memory Stick Duo"

  • For the latest information about supported "Memory Stick Duo" media, refer to the compatibility information on the support page.
  • PCS supports FAT32. However, it is not ensured that all "Memory Stick Duo" media can be used with PCS.
  • PCS does not support "MagicGate." "MagicGate" is copyright protection technology developed by Sony.
  • To format "Memory Stick Duo" media, use a digital still camera. If you use a computer to format "Memory Stick Duo" media, images stored in the "Memory Stick Duo" media may not be displayed.
  • If you format "Memory Stick Duo" media, all data stored in it - including read-only image files - will be deleted. Make sure that any important data in the "Memory Stick Duo" media has been copied to other storage.

SD card

  • Some third party SD card adaptors have terminals exposed in the middle of the rear side. Such adaptors may not work correctly when inserted into the memory card slot of PCS.
  • Copyright-protected data cannot be read/written.
  • Images edited by a computer may not be viewable by PCS.
  • When carrying or storing a memory card, put it into its case/holder.

Notes on disposal/transfer of PCS

The data stored in the internal hard disk drive of PCS may not be completely erased, even if you delete all images or perform [Restore factory default settings]. When transferring ownership of PCS to another person, it is recommended to perform [Restore factory default settings] to make data recovery difficult. When disposing of PCS, it is recommended to physically destroy it.

Notes on disposal/transfer of memory cards

The data stored in memory cards may not be completely erased even if "format" or "delete" is performed by PCS or a computer. When transferring ownership of a memory card to another person, it is recommended to use a data erasure software to completely erase all data residing on the memory card. When disposing of a memory card, it is recommended to physically destroy it.
