The POWER switch or OUTPUT switch is not set to the correct position.
- When you listen to music imported to your Walkman, slide the POWER switch to ON/WALKMAN and slide the OUTPUT switch to or .
- When you listen to music from another player by connecting it to your Walkman, slide the POWER switch to OFF/HEADPHONES. In this case, you cannot control the music playback on your Walkman. Operate on the player.
- If you transfer a lot of songs to your Walkman at once, it will take time to build the database in the Walkman. Therefore it will take more than 1 minute until the Walkman become operable again after you disconnect the Walkman from your computer. During this, continuous beep sounds will be heard. Wait until beeping has stopped before you operate the Walkman.

You cannot operate your Walkman while it is connected to a computer via USB connection. Disconnect the Walkman from a computer.
