Portable Wireless ServerWG-C20

Changing the settings of this unit from your computer via a browser (Internet connection)

Obtain the latest system software from the following website. Check the update status periodically to make sure you are using the latest version.

http://www.sony.net/c20/

For details on how to connect via wireless LAN, see "Connecting via wireless LAN."

Notes

  • You cannot change settings in guest mode.
  1. Connect this unit and a computer using wireless LAN directly.
  2. Enter the following address in the address bar of the web browser to access the setting screen of this unit.

    http://192.168.41.1/

    Windows: Internet Explorer, Mac: Safari

  3. Select whether to enable or disable "Internet Connection."

When "Internet Connection" is enabled, "Wireless LAN status" is displayed.

By clicking [+Create New Connection], you can set up the following items.

    (1) Click the icon of WISP SSID to show the access point options. Click the access point you want to connect to.

    (2) Select the "Security,"encryption mode," and "Wireless Password." Select whether to set IP address and DNS server settings automatically by DHCP, or use the fixed address for IP and DNS. To use the fixed address, select STATIC.

    (3) Click [OK] to enter.

Click [Save] to enable "Internet Connection." You can access the internet (in owner mode) from the computer via this unit and the wireless LAN router.

Hint

  • A maximum of 8 SSIDs of wireless LAN routers can be registered.

Connection between the unit and a registered SSID is established automatically.

To unregister an SSID, click and [Save] .

  • Some wireless LAN routers perform address filtering, based on MAC addresses, to allow only the permitted devices to connect to them. If you use this type of wireless LAN router, enter the MAC address of this unit (which is printed on the label on the back panel), changing the first two digits as follows:
    • If the first two digits are "38", change to "3E."
    • If the first two digits are "00", change to "06."

Note

  • If you cannot connect to the address described in step 2, see whether a proxy has been set up. If a proxy has been set up, remove the checkmark. If you still cannot connect, disconnect the LAN cable from the computer.
  • When using at home, an Internet connection and wireless LAN router are required.
  • When using outside the home, check how wireless LAN communication is available in that area, by seeing the website of a public wireless LAN service provider. Using such a service may require a separate contract with that service provider. Connection to all public wireless LAN services is not guaranteed.
  • Wireless LAN exchanges information over radio waves, allowing easy access within the communication range. Consequently, if security settings are not made, there is a risk that a third party on the same network could maliciously access (hack into) your unit. Setting security is your decision and responsibility, and is strongly recommended.
  • Depending on the environment you use, it may take time to establish a connection, or connection may not be established.
  • You should manually input the SSID if the wireless LAN router is set to hide the SSID.
