Notifications
Notifications inform you of events such as new messages and calendar notifications as well as activities in progress such as file downloads. Notifications appear in the following places:
- The status bar
- The notification panel
- The lock screen
- The app icon
To open or close the Notification panel
- To open the Notification panel, drag the status bar downwards, or simply double-tap it.
- To close the Notification panel, drag or swipe the panel upwards.
Hint
After opening the Notification panel, you can access the Quick settings panel by dragging the status bar down again.
To take action on a notification in the Notification panel
- Tap the notification.
To dismiss a notification from the Notification panel
- Swipe the notification left or right.
Note
Not all notifications can be dismissed.
Hint
To snooze a notification, drag the notification slowly to the side and tap (Snooze icon). Notifications can be snoozed for 15, 30 minutes or 1 or 2 hours.
To expand a notification on the Notification panel
- Tap
(More options icon) to expand and view more information about the notification without opening the app.
To clear all notifications from the Notification panel
- Tap Clear all.

If there is a long list of notifications, scroll down to find the Clear all button.
To take action on a notification from the lock screen
- Double-tap the notification.
To dismiss a notification from the lock screen
- Swipe the notification left or right.
To expand a notification on the lock screen
- Drag the notification downwards.
Notification display options on the lock screen
Don’t show notifications at all | You won’t get any notifications on the lock screen. |
Show all notification content | Get all notifications on the lock screen. When you have this setting turned on, keep in mind that all content (including the content of incoming emails and chat messages) will be visible on your lock screen unless you designate the relevant applications as Hide sensitive content in the Configure notifications settings menu. |
Hide sensitive content | You must have a PIN, password, or pattern set up as your screen lock in order for this setting to be available. When you get a sensitive notification for an incoming email or chat, the content won’t be visible on your lock screen. |
To select the notifications to display on the lock screen
- Find and tap Settings > Apps & notifications > Configure notifications.
- Tap Show notifications.
- Select an option.
Hint
You can keep notifications on the lock screen until you swipe to dismiss them. To enable this feature, tap the Keep notifications switch under Configure notifications.
Setting the notification level for an app
You can set how to receive notifications from an application.
To set the notification level for an app
- Find and tap Settings > Apps & notifications.
- Select the desired app, then tap Notifications.
- Tap the switches to adjust notification settings as desired.
Notification light
The notification light informs you about battery status and some other events. For example, a flashing white light means there is a new message or a missed call. The notification light is enabled by default but can be disabled manually.
Note
When the notification light is disabled, it only lights up when there is a battery status warning, for example, when the battery level goes below 15 percent.
To enable or disable the notification light
- Find and tap Settings > Apps & notifications > Configure notifications.
- Tap Use LED light to show incoming notifications switch to enable or disable the function.
