Synchronizing recording with playback (Digital Synchronized Recording)
Some portable digital devices such as portable CD/MD/DAT players do not output digital signals while playback is stopped. You can start recording automatically with the signals from those devices (Digital Synchronized Recording).
- Connect the optical digital output terminal of the external device (
) to the LINE IN(OPT) jack (
) using an optical digital cable (not supplied) (
) when the linear PCM recorder is in the stop mode.
- Press and hold the HOME/BACK button for more than 1 second, select “
Settings” - “Recording Settings” - “Digital SYNC REC,” and then press the
button.
- Press
or
to select “ON,” and then press the
button.
The “Digital SYNC REC” is set to “ON.” (“Digital SYNC REC” is set to “OFF” by default.) - Press the HOME/BACK button.
The stop mode display appears again.
- Slide the INPUT switch to the “LINE” position.
- Perform recording operation in the same way as when using the built-in microphones to set the linear PCM recorder to recording standby mode.
- Start playback on the external device.
Recording starts automatically with track information from the connected external device. When a new file is played back, recording also starts as a new file.
Note
- When a different digital signal is input, it is recorded as a new file because different signals cannot be saved in the same file.
- During digital recording, the counter display might be approximately one second later than the actual recording.
- During digital recording from a CD/MD/DAT player, the linear PCM recorder may fail to record in synchronized recording mode depending on the type of source data or operations attempted.
- Operation cannot be guaranteed for all types of CD/MD/DAT players. Some external devices may not operate properly.
- During digital recording, the following features cannot be used:
- MIC ATT switch
- Recording level setting
- LIMITER setting
- Recording mode setting
- LCF(Low Cut) setting
- SBM(Super Bit Mapping) setting
- pre-recording
- S/N 100dB
- Digital recording may be disabled when the remaining available recording time is less than 10 seconds.
Hint
- You cannot add a track mark while Digital Synchronized Recording.
- For details on supported digital signals, see “Recording digital signals from external equipment.”
