Connecting to an iPhone/iPad/iPod

You can connect the headphone amplifier to an iPhone/iPad/iPod using the USB cable supplied with your iPhone/iPad/iPod. For details on compatible models, see “Compatible iPhone/iPad/iPod models” at the lower part of this page.

  1. Turn on the iPhone/iPad/iPod.
  2. Connect the iPhone/iPad/iPod to the iPhone/iPad/iPod port using the USB cable supplied with your device.

    The following indications of the CHG POWER indicator show that the connection is not established properly.

    • Flashes one time about every three seconds

      An incompatible device is connected to the iPhone/iPad/iPod port.

    • Flashes two times about every three seconds

      A USB hub is connected to the iPhone/iPad/iPod port.

      Connect the device directly without the USB hub.

    • Flashes three times about every three seconds

      The headphone amplifier is not connected to iPhone/iPad/iPod properly.

      Reconnect them properly.

Compatible iPhone/iPad/iPod models

You can use the headphone amplifier with only the following models. (as of August 2016)

Update your iPhone, iPad or iPod to the latest software before use.

If you have installed the compatible apps in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod running iOS7 and above, it can playback high-resolution audio format.

The headphone amplifier is compatible with audio format files up to 96 kHz/24 bit PCM.

Note

  • If noise is generated, turn off the connected iPhone/iPad/iPod, then turn it on again.
  • The headphone amplifier only supports the audio playback function of an iPhone/iPad/iPod.
  • You cannot transfer music to your iPhone/iPad/iPod from the headphone amplifier.
  • Do not connect an iPhone/iPad/iPod that is not supported. The headphone amplifier is not guaranteed to work with an unsupported iPhone/iPad/iPod.
  • Sony is not liable for damage/erasure of recorded data caused by using an iPhone/iPad/iPod with the headphone amplifier.
  • Do not disconnect the iPhone/iPad/iPod while operating. Before disconnecting the iPhone/iPad/iPod from the headphone amplifier, stop playback and turn the headphone amplifier off to prevent damage to data.
  • If the sound is distorted, set the equalizer to “Off” or “Flat” on your iPhone/iPad/iPod.
  • Turn on your iPhone/iPad/iPod before connecting it to the headphone amplifier.
  • Depending on the iPhone/iPad/iPod, the sound may become loud suddenly when you adjust the volume.
  • If the battery level of the iPhone/iPad/iPod is too low, charge it before use.
  • Music volume may vary depending on the ring tone of the iPhone and its application. Refer to the operation manual of your iPhone.
  • If the iPhone is set to silent mode, the ring tone may not be heard from the headphones.
  • For details on operating an iPhone/iPad/iPod, refer to its operation manual.
  • The iPhone/iPad/iPod will not be charged when it is connected to the headphone amplifier. (as of August 2016)
    Depending on the Apple product with iOS11 or later, it will be charged. In this case, the battery power of the headphone amplifier will become lower. (as of December 2017)
  • If you are listening to music too loudly, the battery may drain even if the DC IN 5V / CHARGE port of headphone amplifier is connected to a computer or an AC outlet.
  • The Xperia/WALKMAN/PC port has priority when multiple devices are connected to the Xperia/WALKMAN/PC port and the iPhone/iPad/iPod port at the same time.
  • Depending on the Apple product, there may be significant electric power required when starting the communication connected with the headphone amplifier. The battery power of the headphone amplifier may be drained and the unit may turn off if you connect the Apple product to the headphone amplifier when the battery power is low. In this case, charge the headphone amplifier or use the USB AC adaptor to connect with the Apple product.
  • When you are listening at a high volume level, the CHG POWER indicator may flash or the sound may be interrupted; this is not a malfunction. If this problem arises, turn the volume down.
