Using the tethering function
The tethering function allows you to use a mobile device such as a smartphone as a modem to connect USB-compatible devices, wired-LAN-cable-compatible devices, wireless-LAN (Wi-Fi)-compatible devices, or Bluetooth-compatible devices to the internet. Wi-Fi tethering, USB tethering, Ethernet tethering, and Bluetooth tethering are supported.
Note
- A communications contract is required to use the tethering function.
Using the Wi-Fi tethering function
You can use your device as a wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) access point to connect multiple wireless-LAN-compatible devices to the internet at the same time.

Tap as follows.
[Settings] > [Network & internet] > [Hotspot & tethering]

Tap the following.
[Wi‑Fi hotspot]
Then, tap the following switch to activate the function.
[Use Wi‑Fi hotspot]
Changing the Wi-Fi tethering settings
You can change the default hotspot name, security system, hotspot password, and other Wi-Fi hotspot settings of your device.

Tap as follows.
[Settings] > [Network & internet] > [Hotspot & tethering] > [Wi‑Fi hotspot]

Tap the desired item to change the settings.

If you are using a Wi-Fi hotspot in the 6 GHz band, select a security system from among the following.
[WPA3-Personal]/[WPA2/WPA3-Personal]/[Enhanced Open]
Hint

The default setting for the hotspot name is “Xperia_XXXX” (XXXX is a four-digit number).

Set a password if the following is displayed when you change the security system.
[Hotspot password]
The password for the Wi-Fi hotspot is set randomly by default, but you can change the password as you like.

Tap the icon to display a QR code with Wi-Fi hotspot information.
(QR code)You can easily use a Wi-Fi hotspot by scanning the QR code.
Using USB tethering, Bluetooth tethering, or Ethernet tethering

Tap as follows.
[Settings] > [Network & internet] > [Hotspot & tethering]

Connect your device to a compatible device.
- For USB tethering, connect your device to a computer using a USB Type-C cable.
- For Bluetooth tethering, first pair your device with the Bluetooth device. Then, set the connection method for your device on the Bluetooth device. For operations from the Bluetooth device, refer to the instruction manual of the Bluetooth device.
- For Ethernet tethering, connect your device to a computer or other device using a USB-LAN adapter and a wired LAN cable.

Tap one of the following switches to enable the tethering function.
[USB tethering] / [Bluetooth tethering] / [Ethernet tethering]
