Audio NR Settings

movie, slow&quick motion

You can set whether to reduce noise in the audio input from the built-in microphone and external microphone, respectively. This function cannot be used during slow-motion/quick-motion recording and time-lapse movie recording.

  1. MENU (Shooting) → [Audio Recording][Audio NR Settings] → desired setting item.

Menu item details

Wind NR: Int Mic:
Reduces wind noise by cutting low-range sound in the audio input from the built-in microphone. When you select [Auto], the camera automatically detects and reduces wind noise. ([Auto]/[On]/[Off])
Wind NR: Ext Mic:
Reduces wind noise by cutting low-range sound in the audio input from the external microphone. ([On]/[Off])
Noise Cut: Int Mic:
Reduces constant background noise and the sound of the lens’s power zoom captured in audio input from the built-in microphone. ([On]/[Off])
Noise Cut: Ext Mic:
Reduces constant background noise captured in audio input from the external microphone. ([On]/[Off])

Note

  • When using the wind noise reduction or noise-cutting function, the sound quality may differ from normal audio.
  • The effectiveness of the wind noise reduction and noise-cutting functions varies depending on the shooting conditions.
  • If you change the [Audio NR Settings] setting while recording a movie, noise may be produced when the setting is changed and become recorded in the movie.
  • When [Wind NR: Int Mic] is set to [Auto] while [Audio Out Timing] is set to [Live], the wind noise reduction effect cannot be confirmed via audio monitoring during recording. Audio with reduced wind noise is recorded in the movie. Also, when live-streaming audio using the streaming function or outputting audio through HDMI, audio with reduced wind noise is streamed or output.
  • When [Noise Cut: Int Mic] or [Noise Cut: Ext Mic] is set to [On] while [Audio Out Timing] is set to [Live], the noise-cutting effect cannot be confirmed via audio monitoring during recording. Audio with noise cut is recorded in the movie. Also, when live-streaming audio using the streaming function or outputting audio through HDMI, audio with the noise-cutting effect applied is streamed or output.
  • Even if you set [Noise Cut: Int Mic] or [Noise Cut: Ext Mic] to [On], it may take some time for the noise cut function to take effect.
  • The effectiveness of [Noise Cut: Int Mic] in reducing the sound of the lens’s power zoom varies depending on the lens used.
  • The setting for [Noise Cut: Ext Mic] is applied to input from the (microphone) terminal and analog audio input* from the Multi Interface Shoe.

*For some external microphones, [Noise Cut: Ext Mic] cannot be set even when the audio input is set to analog transfer. In this case, use the noise-cut function of the external microphone.

*When the audio input from the external microphone is set to digital transfer, [Noise Cut: Ext Mic] cannot be set.
