Using the camera with power supplied via USB

By supplying power to the camera from an external power source via USB, you can use the camera with reduced battery consumption during shooting and playback.


Prepare the following commercially available products that support USB PD (USB Power Delivery).

  • USB Type-C cable (USB-C – USB-C) supporting 27 W or more
  • External power supply supporting output of 27 W or more

  1. Insert a sufficiently charged battery pack into the camera.
    • The camera will not activate if there is no remaining battery. Insert a sufficiently charged battery pack into the camera.
  2. Connect the USB Type-C terminal of the camera to an external power supply (USB-PD-compatible) using a commercially available USB Type-C cable (USB-PD-compatible).
    • You can use either of the USB Type-C terminals, USB PORT 1 or USB PORT 2, to supply power. MENU → (Setup) → [USB] → Set [USB Power Supply] to [Auto] or the port you are using ([PORT1]/[PORT2]).
  3. Turn on the camera.
    • An icon () indicating USB power supply will appear next to the battery display on the monitor, and power supply will start.

Hint

  • It is possible to supply power from USB-PD-compatible devices with an output of less than 27 W, but the battery consumption may increase during power supply.
  • You can also supply power using a device that is not compatible with USB PD. Use a USB Type-C cable (USB-A - USB-C) (commercially available). When you use an AC adaptor, use one with a rated output of 1.5 A or higher.

Note

  • As long as the power is on, the battery pack will not be charged even if the camera is connected to an external power source.
  • Under certain conditions, power may be supplied from the battery pack supplementarily even if the camera is connected to an external power source.
  • Do not remove the battery pack while power is supplied. If you remove the battery pack, the camera will turn off.
  • Only connect the USB cable to the camera or disconnect the USB cable from the camera while the camera is turned off.
  • Due to an increase in temperature inside the camera, the continuous recording time may be shortened while power is supplied via USB. The area around the terminal may become hot. Be careful when handling it.
  • When using a mobile charger as a power source, confirm that it is fully charged before use. Also, be careful of the remaining power on the mobile charger during use.
  • Operation cannot be guaranteed with all external power supplies.
