Shooting for HDR Set

still image

You can create images with a high dynamic range that cannot be achieved with normal shooting by continuously shooting 4 to 16 RAW images and then combining them on a computer. To combine multiple RAW images, dedicated software is needed.

  1. MENU (Shooting) → [Composite RAW Sht.][Shooting for HDR Set][Shooting for HDR][On].

The [Shooting for HDR] setting screen will be displayed.

  2. Press the right side of the control wheel and set [D-Range], [Exposure Comp.], and [Number of Shots].
    • D-Range: Sets the ratio for expanding the dynamic range. ([AUTO]/[Level 1]/[Level 2]/[Level 3])
    • Exposure Comp.: Sets the brightness of the image.
    • Number of Shots: Sets the number of images shot for HDR. ([4 shots]/[8 shots]/[16 shots])
  3. Go back to the shooting standby screen and then adjust the focus and press the shutter button.

The specified number of RAW images with different brightness levels will be shot continuously.

Menu item details

Shooting for HDR:
Sets whether to perform shooting for HDR. ([On]/[Off])
RAW File Type:
Sets the file format of RAW images recorded with HDR shooting. ([Lossless Comp]/[Compressed(HQ)]/[Compressed])

Hint

  • Each time you press the Fn (Function) button on the [Shooting for HDR] settings screen, the previewed image switches in the order of “current exposure → exposure for plus side → exposure for minus side.” However, the exposure range visible on the preview screen is -3.0EV to +3.0EV for the combined exposure of [Exposure Comp.] and [D-Range]. If you set values outside this range, the brightness will not be reflected on the preview screen but will be reflected in the recorded image.
  • All the setting items can be hidden by pressing the right side of the control wheel while the cursor is over [Number of Shots] on the [Shooting for HDR] setting screen, making it easier to check the image.
  • You can import the recorded RAW images to a computer and combine them using Imaging Edge Desktop (Viewer).
  • You can also perform [Shooting for HDR] using Imaging Edge Desktop (Remote).
  • For details on how to use Imaging Edge Desktop, refer to the following support site.

Note

  • RAW images recorded with [Shooting for HDR] cannot be combined using the camera. Use Imaging Edge Desktop (Viewer) to combine the images.
  • When using [Shooting for HDR], the settings are locked as follows.
    • [File Format] under [Image Quality Settings]: [RAW]
    • [RAW File Type] under [Image Quality Settings]: the file type set in [RAW File Type] under [Shooting for HDR Set]
    • [Flash Mode]: [Flash Off]
  • The focus is locked to the position in the first shot.
  • Depending on the shooting settings, it may not be possible to shoot with the level of dynamic range specified in [D-Range].
  • When the internal memory for buffering does not have enough space for the number of images set in [Number of Shots], shooting cannot be started. To confirm the remaining capacity of the memory for buffering, use [Remain Shoot Display].
  • Bulb shooting cannot be performed when using [Shooting for HDR].
  • The shutter speed cannot be set slower than 1/30 second when using [Shooting for HDR].
  • If the shooting mode is set to a mode other than P/A/S/M, you cannot perform [Shooting for HDR].
