Focus Mode

Selects the method to suit your purpose (still images or movies).

  1. MENU (Camera Settings1) → [Focus Mode] → desired setting.

(Single-shot AF):
Press the SHUTTER/MOVIE button halfway down to focus automatically. While the SHUTTER/MOVIE button is pressed halfway down, the focus is locked.
For movies, you can first set the focus before recording, and then later readjust the focus during recording by pressing the SHUTTER/MOVIE button halfway down. (Set [AF-S during mov rec] to [On] in advance.)
(Preset Focus):
The focus is locked so that a satisfying resolution can be achieved in a wide front-to-back range. You can shoot movies without additional focusing operations. When the camera and the subject are close, use the NEAR mode. This focus mode is available only during movie shooting.
(Manual Focus):
Adjusts the focus manually.

Note

  • If the subject is too close, the image may show any dust or fingerprints on the lens. Wipe the lens with a soft cloth, etc.
  • When shooting still images, [Preset Focus] is not available.
  • When the NEAR mode of [Preset Focus] is used, the shortest shooting distance is 50 cm (1.7 ft.). If you want to shoot from a focal distance of 20 cm to 50 cm (0.66 ft. to 1.7 ft.), use the [Single-shot AF] mode or [Manual Focus] mode.
