About the directivity of the built-in microphones

The built-in microphones are unidirectional and you can change the angle of each microphone with your fingertip to adjust the directivity.

When both microphones are positioned to point in the same direction (0° positioning)

The built-in microphones collect sounds mostly from the direction in which they point. This microphone positioning is suitable for recording sounds from a particular direction, such as recording a voice note or an interview.

Both microphones are tilted outward to lean away from each other at 90°

The right built-in microphone collects sounds from the right while the left built-in microphone collects sounds from the left. This positioning of the microphones provides wide stereo sound and is suitable for recording a meeting or music.

Both microphones are tilted inward to lean toward each other at 90° (X-Y positioning)

The right built-in microphone collects sounds from the left while the left built-in microphone collects sounds from the right. This positioning of the microphones provides deep natural sound.

If your IC recorder is placed extremely close to the sound source, however, this positioning causes sounds from the left and the right to be collected in the inverted manner.

A: Sounds from the right are collected.

B: Sounds from the left are collected.
