Ext. Flash AF Illuminator

If a flash with an AF illuminator function is attached to the Multi Interface Shoe, the AF assist light can be set. In the time between pressing the shutter button halfway down and locking the focus, the AF illuminator on an external flash lights up automatically to allow the camera to focus easily even in dark places.

  1. MENU → (Focus) → [AF/MF] → [Ext. Flash AF Illuminator] → desired setting.

Auto:
The AF illuminator on an external flash lights up automatically in dark surroundings.
Off:
Does not use the AF illuminator on an external flash.

Note

  • You cannot use the AF illuminator on an external flash in the following situations:
    • When the flash is off
    • When shooting movies
    • When the focus mode is set to [Continuous AF]
    • When [Priority Set in AF-S] is set to [Release]
    • When [Focus Magnifier] is activated
    • When [Scene Selection] is set to the following modes:
      • [Landscape]
      • [Sports Action]
      • [Night Scene]
  • The AF illuminator emits a very bright light. Although there is no health hazard, do not look directly into the AF illuminator at close range.
