Applying exported 3D LUTs

This section describes the procedure for applying a 3D LUT (NLE .cube) exported using this software to non-linear editing software.

  • Refer to the instruction manual for each software for details. Procedures and displayed items may vary depending on the software version.

Applying a 3D LUT (Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve)

  1. Save the 3D LUT file to the following folder.

    Windows: C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\LUT\Sony

    macOS: /macOS/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/LUT/Sony


    Hint

    • The destination folder can also be opened using the following steps.

      ① In DaVinci Resolve, select the menus in the following order.
      File > Project Settings

      ② Open the folder where you want to save the LUT.
      Color Management tab > Open LUT Folder button

    • Set interpolation using a 3D LUT to Trilinear or Tetrahedral in the following dropdown list.
      3D Lookup Table Interpolation
  2. Ensure your project is set to use the intended output color space*1 on the timeline:

    ① In DaVinci Resolve, select the menus in the following order.
    File > Project Settings

    ② Select DaVinci YRGB.
    Color Management tab > Color science > DaVinci YRGB

    ③ From the Timeline color space drop-down list, select a Rec.709 color space*2.

    ④ Click Save.

  3. Right-click the media thumbnail and select as follows from the shortcut menu.

    LUT > Sony

  4. Select the 3D LUT you want to use.
    • If the source media color space uses Legal range*3, the LUT will be applied to the clip.
  5. If the source media color space uses Full range*4, follow these steps to disable media range stretching.

    ① Right-click the media thumbnail and select Clip Attributes.

    ② Change Data Levels to the following.
    Full

Applying a 3D LUT (Adobe Premiere)

  1. In Adobe Premiere, ensure the intended output color space*5 is set as the working color space for your sequence.

    ① Select the menus in the following order.
    Sequence > Sequence Settings

    ② Select the following for Working Color Space.
    Rec.709

    ③ Click OK.

  2. Right-click the media in the Adobe Premiere media window and select the following.
    Modify
  3. Select Interpret Footage.
  4. In the Color Management section, open the following.
    Input LUT selector
  5. Select the 3D LUT file you want to use:
    • To use an existing 3D LUT: Select it from the selector.
    • To add a new 3D LUT: Select the file from the target folder using the following steps.

      ① Select Add LUTs.

      ② Go to the target folder, and then select the saved 3D LUT you want to use.

  6. Set the Color Space Override selector to match the output color space*5 of the LUT.
