Saving Separate Audio WAV Files (when XLR handle unit is attached)

When an XLR handle unit is attached to the unit and you are recording the input from the XLR handle unit, you can simultaneously record a WAV file for editing separately from the main video on the recording media.

WAV files are recorded in 32-bit float format, which reduces noise during editing. Additionally, if the dynamics of the main 24-bit audio become compressed by limiter processing, the audio signal can be restored from the 32-bit float format WAV file.

About the recorded file

Recorded in 32-bit float format.

48kHz/96kHz setting will be the same as the main signal.

The file name extension is “.WAV” in MP4 format, and “.wav” in X-OCN format.

Storage destination of the recorded file

The recorded file is stored in the following directory.

MP4 format

Memory card Folder path
Normal recording
SDXC /PRIVATE/M4ROOT/WAV
CFexpress Type A /M4ROOT/WAV

Hint

  • You can change the name of the root folder on the recording media (XAVC S files) to [M4ROOT] or [Cam ID + Reel#] using [TC/Media] – [Clip Name Format] – [XAVC S Root Folder Name] in the full menu. The example above shows the folder path when set to [M4ROOT].

X-OCN format

Memory card Folder path
Normal recording
SDXC /PRIVATE/CINEROOT/Wav
CFexpress Type A /CINEROOT/Wav

Hint

  • You can change the name of the root folder to [Cam ID + Reel#] using [TC/Media] – [Clip Name Format] in the full menu.

About file names

The file name consists of the clip name recorded on the memory card + “W01” suffix.

Starting WAV recording

  • If the active slot is switched during recording, WAV recording will continue to the new card slot.

  • In card slot A/B simultaneous recording mode, WAV files are recorded to both card slots.
