Notes on the Battery Pack and Charging the Battery
Notes on using the battery pack
- Always use genuine Sony batteries.
- The correct remaining battery indication may not be displayed under some operating or environmental conditions.
- Do not expose the battery pack to water. Be careful not to get it wet with water or other liquids.
- Do not leave the battery pack in extremely hot places, such as in a car or under direct sunlight.
Notes on charging the battery pack
- Charge the battery pack (supplied) before using the unit for the first time.
- The charged battery pack will discharge little by little even if you do not use it. Charge the battery pack each time before you use the unit so that you do not miss any opportunities to shoot images.
- Do not charge battery packs, except battery packs specified for the unit. Doing so may result in leaks, overheating, explosion, electric shock, burns, or injuries.
- When you use a completely new battery pack or a battery pack that has not been used for a long time, the charging lamp (CHARGE) may flash quickly when the battery is charged. In this case, remove and reinsert the battery pack and USB cable, and then try charging again.
- We recommend charging the battery pack in an ambient temperature of 10 °C to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F). The battery pack may not be correctly charged at temperatures outside this range.
- Operation is not be guaranteed with all external power supplies.
- When charging is finished, if charging using the charger, disconnect the USB AC adaptor from the power outlet. If charging with the battery inserted in the unit, disconnect the USB cable. Not doing so may result in a shorter battery life.
- Do not continuously or repeatedly charge the battery pack without using it if it is already fully charged or close to fully charged. Doing so may cause a deterioration in battery performance.
- If the charging lamp of the unit flashes while charging, remove the battery pack and then insert the same battery pack firmly back into the unit. If the charging lamp flashes again, this may indicate a faulty battery or that a battery pack other than the specified type has been inserted. Check that the battery pack is the specified type.
If the battery pack is the specified type, remove the battery pack, replace it with a new or different one, and check that the newly inserted battery is charging correctly. If the newly inserted battery is charging correctly, the previously inserted battery may be faulty. - If the charging lamp flashes while charging the battery pack inside the camera, this indicates that charging has stopped temporarily due to temperature outside the operating temperature range, and is on standby. When the temperature returns to the appropriate range, charging resumes and the charging lamp lights up again.
- If the charging lamp is not lit, remove and re-insert the USB cable and/or battery.
Remaining battery capacity indicator
- The remaining battery indicator is displayed by an icon on the monitor. It takes about one minute to display the correct remaining battery capacity.
- The correct remaining battery indication may not be displayed under some operating or environmental conditions.
Effective use of the battery pack
- Battery performance decreases in low temperature environments. So in cold places, the operational time of the battery pack is shorter. To ensure longer battery pack use, we recommend putting the battery pack in your pocket close to your body to warm it up, and insert it in the unit immediately before you start shooting. If there are any metal objects, such as keys in your pocket, be careful of causing a short-circuit.
- The battery pack will run down quickly with continuous shooting, turning the power on/off frequently, or setting the monitor brightness high.
- We recommend preparing spare battery packs and taking trial shots before shooting.
- If the battery terminals are dirty, you may not be able to turn on the unit or the battery pack may not become properly charged. In that case, clean the battery terminals by lightly wiping off any dust using a soft cloth or a cotton swab.
Storing the battery pack
- To extend the life of the battery pack, charge the battery pack and then fully discharge it in the unit at least once a year. Store the battery pack in a cool, dry place after removing it from the unit.
- To ensure long-term, safe battery use, the battery may automatically discharge gradually during storage. If you have not used a battery for a while, we recommend charging it before use.
Battery information
You can check the information, such as the model number and degradation status, of the battery inserted in the unit on the [Battery] page of the [Info] category in the menu.
- The battery will gradually deteriorate with repeated use over time. The battery status is displayed as one of three levels on the [Battery] page: [Good] / [Slightly deter.] / [Deter.(replace)]. If [Deter.(replace)] is displayed, we recommend that you purchase a new battery.
- To ensure long-term, safe battery use, the battery may automatically discharge gradually during storage. If you have not used a battery for a while, we recommend charging it before use.
About battery life
- The battery life is limited. If you use the same battery repeatedly or use the same battery for a long period, the battery capacity decreases gradually. If the available time of the battery is shortened significantly, it is probably time to replace the battery pack with a new one.
- The battery life varies according to how the battery pack is stored and the operating conditions and environment in which each battery pack is used.
About the built-in rechargeable battery
The unit has a built-in rechargeable battery for storing the date, time, and other settings even when the unit is turned off. The built-in rechargeable battery will become charged after 24 hours have elapsed if the unit is connected to a power outlet using the AC adaptor or if a fully charged battery pack is attached, regardless of whether the unit is turned on/off. The rechargeable battery will be fully discharged in about 2 months if the AC adaptor is not connected or the unit is used without the battery pack attached. Use your unit after charging the battery.
