About PTZ Auto Framing

The unit is equipped with a PTZ auto framing function that recognizes people and automatically adjusts the camera direction and zoom position.

PTZ auto framing has two modes: “manual tracking start mode” in which you can start tracking a person manually, and “auto tracking start mode” in which tracking of a person will start automatically when the person enters an area configured manually, beforehand.

Set the mode to use before using this function using the procedure described in “Configuring PTZ Auto Framing Initial Settings.”

  • For details about PTZ auto framing operation in manual tracking start mode, see “Specifying the Subjects for Automatic Tracking (manual tracking start mode).”
  • For details about PTZ auto framing operation in auto tracking start mode, see “Selecting Subjects in a Specified Position and Tracking Automatically (auto tracking start mode).”

The following six states exist for PTZ auto framing.

Live operation screen display Status
(No display) PTZ auto framing is off.
[Preparing] Preparing for PTZ auto framing execution.
[Return to Start Position] Moving to the configured start position (auto tracking start mode only).
[Detecting] The tracking subject is detected (auto tracking start mode only).
[Select Target] Waiting for tracking target selection. Tap a person to track in the camera image pane.
[Tracking] Target is being tracked.
[Tracking Paused] Tracking is paused. Press the [Resume] button or tap a person within the camera image pane to resume tracking.
[Target Lost] Tracking of the selected target has been lost.

You can select a tracking target by tapping a person within the camera image pane in the [Detecting], [Tracking], and [Target Lost] states.

You can monitor the PTZ auto framing execution status using the tally lamp of the unit. For details, see “Checking the PTZ Auto Framing Status Remotely.”

Note

  • Configure the following settings in the Web App when using auto framing.
    • [Pan-Tilt] > [P/T Speed] > [Speed Step]: [Extended]
    • [Pan-Tilt] > [P/T Acceleration] > [Ramp Curve]: 7 to 9
  • During PTZ auto framing, the information displayed on the camera image is minimal.
  • During auto focus, the person being tracked is the focus target. To focus on something other than the person you are tracking, set to manual focus.
  • Settings related to auto focus cannot be changed during PTZ auto framing operation.
  • Proper auto tracking operation may not be possible if the camera focus or exposure is not set properly, or due to factors such as the shooting environment (for example, brightness), the shooting angle (extremely high angle or low angle), or the density, size, clothing, movement, or obscuring of people.
  • The full effectiveness of the face recognition function may not be obtained if the following conditions are not met.
    • Facing toward the front
    • Normal facial expression (eyes closed, no extreme facial expressions such as anger or crying)
    • No excessive covering of the face (sunglasses, mask, etc.)
  • The actual zoom speed and accuracy will vary depending on the lens. Check the operation before use.
  • If the lens is changed or the [Zoom Type], [Imager Scan Mode], [S&Q Motion], [P/T Range Limit], or [P/T Direction] > [Ceiling] is changed, change the settings on the [Start Position] screen and [Detection Settings] screen of the PTZ AFR settings screen. For details, see “Configuring PTZ Auto Framing Initial Settings.”
  • When using PoE++ power delivery, recording and PTZ auto framing cannot be used at the same time.
  • PTZ auto framing cannot be executed during thumbnail display, playback, Rec Review, color bars display, lens calibration, and when HDMI output is not possible.
  • Immediately after switching PTZ auto framing on/off, there will be a few seconds during which no operation will be accepted.
  • PTZ auto framing cannot be used if the HDMI output is larger than 1920×1080. Also, after changing the video output settings, it may take several 10s of seconds for PTZ auto framing to start, so allow a margin of time before use.
  • PTZ auto framing cannot be used if both [Stream] > [Stream] > [Stream Setting] > [Setting] is set to [RTSP] and [Stream] [Video Stream] > [Codec 2] is set to anything other than [Off] in the web menu.
  • PTZ auto framing cannot be used if both [Stream] > [Stream] > [Stream Setting] > [Setting] is set to [NDI|HX] and [Stream] > [Video Stream] > [Frame Rate 2] is higher than 10fps in the web menu.
